Planning for an Extended Trip

I wrote this initially as an internal memo to my partner Gretchen since we're heading to Venice for 8 days to work closely with Paolo. Then I thought – "DOH! Generalize it. Everyone has to plan trips and it's annoying. Maybe this will be useful to someone else". So here's how I plan for an extended trip that mixes work and pleasure (you simply cannot go to Venice and NOT take some time off; I think its just impossible).
